Nowy old school hardcore z Holandii to, mimo dość zmurszałego (prawie czterdziestoletniego) gatunku, bardzo świeże granie.
Słucham tego z przyjemnością, bo ci młodzi kolesie wyciągnęli wszystko co najlepsze z youth crew grania. Cała płyta jest do mielenie w kółko i non stop, bo nie jest nudna i przekazuje ogromną werwę i radość życia. Mimo niektórych życiowo smutnych tekstów, daje nadzieję.
No właśnie teksty. Są długie, świetnie napisane, mają sens, drążą tematy związane z człowiekiem i nie mądrując się- są mądre. To duża zaleta ich autora, że potrafił opisać (chyba) samego siebie i różne rozważanie na temat człowieczych wad. Chłop ma dobre pióro, będę mu się przyglądał.
Muzyka to hardcore z polotem. Jest gęsto, ale przejrzyście. Jest standardowo, ale ciekawie. Dużo się dzieje, choć środki wyrazu są bardzo tradycyjne. Przede wszystkim jest po coś i o czymś.
Cieszę się, że youth crew hardcore, który cztery dekady temu zapoczątkowały takie grupy jak Youth Of Today wciąż ma naśladowców i ciągle jest na fali wznoszącej. Holandia ma w sumie dobre korzenie by to robić. Po pierwsze zespół Lärm- absolutny europejski prekursor straight edge grania, który potem przepoczwarzył się w Profound, Colt Turkey i last but not least Man Lifting Banner. Po drugie długi wyjazd kilku młodych chłopaków z tych grup do USA, podczas którego właśnie te trzy ostatnie zostały zainspirowane bezpośrednim spotkaniem z członkami Y.O.T., podczas ich trasy w końcówce lat osiemdziesiątych. Przynieśli potem dobrą nowinę do swojego kraju. Kolejny czynnik motywujący to lata dziewięćdziesiąte i dalej, gdzie Mainstrike, Birds Of A Feather, Reaching Forward, Vitamin X i następni jak Urgent Kill czy Right On Time wciąż niosą pochodnię tej muzyki.
Jednak Hometown Crew nie zżynają w zerojedynkowy sposób. Ich inspiracje dotykają również hardcorowej muzyki z przełomu wieków. Wytyczają nowe kierunki, choć śmiało można wyczytać tu motywy z Killing The Dream, Reign Supreme czy Champion. Gęsto i do przodu.
Każdy kawałek ma tu sens i każdy totalnie niesie w górę. Mam rzecz jasna swoje faworyty. Jest nim na pewno „In Alliance”, który zbudowano jak zupę na rosole na średnim tempie i ciągnącym cały kawałek wokalu. I te chórki! Moc!
Przepiękny jest utwór “You will always have a home here”. Wolny, majestatyczny, głęboki i znowu z genialnie wyśpiewanymi chórkami. Cudo do śpiewania przy goleniu. Zaraz po nim wjeżdża najbardziej wzruszający utwór „Confrontation”. Tekstowo siedzi mocno w mojej głowie po tym co mieliśmy z Nikodemem przez pierwsze dwa miesiące tego roku. Bardzo ciężko mi się go normalnie czyta, bo tam się wszystko zgadza, włącznie z rocznikiem…aaarrrggghhh!!!
Polecamy wraz z wydawcą Tonim, notabene barberem, z którym to spotkaliśmy się na tym wyjeździe!
U mnie na 100% jedna z płyt tego roku.
Podsłuchiwać jej będziemy w Jamie po powrocie!

The new old-school hardcore from the Netherlands is, despite the rather quite oldy (almost forty years old) genre, very fresh playing.
It's a pleasure to listen to it because these young guys have taken the best out of the youth crew playing. The whole album is to grind over and over again and nonstop because it is not boring and conveys tremendous verve and joie de vivre. Despite some life-sad lyrics, it gives hope.
Well, that's what the lyrics are. They are long, brilliantly written, make sense, drone on about human topics, and are wise without being clever. It is a great merit of their author that he was able to describe (I think) himself and various reflections on human flaws. The guy has a good pen; I will be watching him.
The music is hardcore with open fire. It is dense but transparent, standard but interesting. A lot is going on, although the means of expression are very traditional. Above all, it is for something and about something.
I'm glad to see that Youth Crew Hardcore, which was pioneered four decades ago by groups like Youth Of Today, still has imitators and is still on an upward wave. The Netherlands has good roots to do it. First, the band Lärm- an absolute forerunner of straight edge playing in Europe, which later metamorphosed into Profound, Colt Turkey, and lastly, Man Lifting Banner. Secondly, a long trip to the U.S. by several young guys from these groups, during which the latter three of them were inspired by a direct encounter with members of Y.O.T. during their tour in the late 1980s.
They then brought the good news to their country. Another motivating factor is the 1990s and beyond, when Mainstrike, Birds Of A Feather, Reaching Forward, Vitamin X, and the following, like Urgent Kill and Right On Time, still carried the torch of this music.
However, Hometown Crew does not borrow in a zero-sum way. Their inspirations also touch on hardcore music from the turn of the century. They're charting new directions, though you can boldly pick out riffs from Killing The Dream, Reign Supreme, or Champion. Dense and forward.
Every track here makes sense, and each one carries the day. I have my favorites, of course. One is “In Alliance,” built like soup on broth at a medium tempo with dragging vocals throughout the piece. And those choruses! The power!
Beautiful is the track “You will always have a home here.” It's slow, majestic, deep, and again with brilliantly sung choruses. It's a marvel to sing while shaving. Immediately after, the most touching track, “Confrontation,” enters. Lyrically, it sits firmly in my mind after what my son Nikodem and I had for the first two months of this year. It's usually tough for me to read it because everything fits our situation, including our age... argh!!
We highly recommend, along with the publisher Toni, also a barber with whom we met on this Amsterdam trip!
It's 100% one of the best albums of this year.
We will listen to it at our barbershop when we return from this trip!
